Using Nina's Northcote Laundrette: Common Questions
Below are the questions customers ask most often before their first visit.
At Nina’s, cost depends on the machine you choose. Our 9 kg front loaders run at $6 for an express cycle and $7 for a super cycle, with a 24 minute cycle time, and pricing scales up through the 13 kg, 18 kg, and 27 kg machines. Full pricing for every washer and dryer is listed in the equipment section above, so you can work out your spend before you leave home.
We are open from 6:00 AM until midnight, seven days a week, including public holidays. That covers early mornings before work and late evenings after a shift, which is when most people actually have a spare hour for laundry.
No. We close at midnight and reopen at 6:00 AM, seven days a week. In practice that eighteen hour window covers early starts before work and late finishes after a shift, which is when most people have a spare hour for laundry.
Yes. You can pay by cash, debit card, or credit card. To pay by card, tap the screen at the Bubblepay kiosk at the back of the store, or scan the QR code on the washing machine or dryer you want to use and follow the prompts. There is no need to arrive with a pocket full of change.
Yes. Our 27 kg front loaders handle doonas, blankets, heavy winter bedding, and sleeping bags that will not fit in a domestic machine. This is the main reason people travel to us from beyond Northcote, since extra-large capacity washers are not something every laundrette has.
We run Dexter commercial washing machines and dryers, ranging from 9 kg front loaders for everyday loads up to 27 kg machines for bedding and bulky items, plus high-capacity dryers. Dexter is a commercial brand built for continuous heavy use, which is why our machines hold up better than the domestic units some venues install.
Our machines take laundry powder or liquid. Bring your own from home, or purchase some from our vending machine when you arrive, so a forgotten box of powder does not cost you the trip.
Yes. Nina’s Wash Club is free to join at the Bubblepay kiosk in store. Membership takes $1 off washers 1 to 3 and $2 off washers 4 to 6, and preloading credit earns an extra $5 for every $50 added to your account.
Sort your loads before you arrive so you can go straight to the machines. Match the load to the machine size rather than defaulting to the cheapest, since an overloaded washer cleans poorly and you will pay twice. Use the larger machines to run one big load instead of two small ones, which usually works out cheaper and faster. Bring a basket, and give yourself roughly an hour and a half for a wash and dry.
Yes. Alongside self-service, Nina’s Laundrette provides a commercial laundry service for local businesses across Melbourne and the northern suburbs, covering pickup, washing, drying, folding, and return delivery.
Nina’s Laundrette is at 267 St George’s Road, Northcote, within easy reach of Thornbury, Fairfield, Preston, and Clifton Hill.

St. Georges Rd
The original Northcote Laundromat providing laundry services to our community for over 50 years
Nina’s Laundrette began on St. Georges Road as a sewing and laundry business supporting Melbourne’s textile industry in the 1970s.
In the year 2000 the business moved to become a self service laundromat. The owners have changed over the decades, but Nina’s name has lived on, honouring the hard working women who immigrated to Australia and helped build the culture of Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
